One Room Challenge, Week 4: Paint Changes Everything

Hello, friends! Here we are at week 4 of our ORC! Time flies when you’re having fun… well, we must be having a ton of fun then! If you’re new to my blog (welcome, I’m SO glad you’re here!) you’re probably wondering what is the ORC? It’s a One Room Challenge hosted by Linda from Calling It Home and it challenges us to tackle one room or space in our home and transform it during a 6 week period. We check in every Thursday and post our progress. You can check out my week 1 where I shared my plan and goal for my room, my week 2 and week 3.

Before we go on, I really need to stop and say thank you for every single person that reads my blog and for the comments you leave! They encourage me soo much ….

One Room Challenge: A Bathroom Makeover from www.joyinourhome.com

I am happy to say that this week was way more productive than last week! Choosing the perfect paint color can be hard sometimes… especially when it comes to gray’s. Well, when my sweet friend Kristi from Making It In The Mountains (who’s also doing the One Room Challenge) mentioned Benjamin Moore gray owl, I had to check it out. And I loved it! It was the perfect light shade that I was looking for. I am just loving how bright it feels in here now!

It’s always so fun to look back and see how far we’ve come…. let’s take a peek back at those green walls, shall we?

And heres our projects for next week… countertops, sink and faucet!

I’m excited about some goodies we found this weekend! I was getting a little nervous as we’re getting down to the wire! Talking about getting a little stressed, we found out that the countertop  we wanted is not available in-store anymore. Well, that’s not too big of a problem considering they can order it in. After they tell us, it’s waaaay more expensive and takes 3-6 weeks to come in!!! I do not have 6 weeks to wait for a countertop!!! They mustn’t have ever heard of the ORC or else they would have put a 3 day rush on it and gotten it in a lot sooner! ha!

Here’s a little close-up of the mirror we found! I love the finish on it… almost like a grey that’s been rubbed with a bit of brown!

I love these baskets that I found at Michaels. It was actually harder than I thought finding the right size… not too big but big enough to hold face cloths and cosmetics. Stay posted, because I’m thinking they’re not going to stay brown! Remember, my goal is white and bright!!! I couldn’t leave that aqua colored basket! It’s not the right color but I’m thinking it would be perfect for toilet paper! Should I spray paint it or leave it as is and find a different spot for it in our home? Lastly, I really like that little basket with the chalkboard sign that I found at Michaels. It doesn’t really show up well, but it’ll be perfect for our kids’ toothbrushes! I didn’t really want them in a cup sitting on the counter and when I saw this I had to have it! When our little guy saw it he said “You can even write toothbrushes on there Mommy!” heehee! He’s on the right track!

  •  Create a bright and happy room! (Painting the walls is my #1 priority in this space!!!)
  •  Get rid of purple counter tops.
  •  Change sink and faucet.
  •  Get new light fixture.
  •  Pretty shower curtain.
  •  Thereโ€™s some awesome shelves behind the door and I want lots of storage baskets and pretty storage containers for here.
  •  Build some open shelving above the toilet.
  • Make hook rack for towels.
  • Change oak trim to white.
  • Get rid of medicine cabinet and get new mirror.
  • Change hardware on cabinets and on main door.  (One knob is already changedโ€ฆ had to see how theyโ€™d look!)
  • Change flooring.

And just to leave ya’ll with a pretty picture, here’s some cherry blossoms that I picked from our friend’s place! Their place was in total bloom and looked gorgeous! Seems like you should be able to smell them right through the screen!

Thanks again SO much for stopping by and following along on this crazy journey! I don’t know what I’d do without my faithful readers and all the love and comments you leave!! Have a great day everyone! xo

I agree, Emily!! We found the mirror at Winners (which is Canadian but the same chain as TJ Maxx, Ross’, Marshalls, etc.)! They had an awesome selection of mirrors and could’ve easily chose 2 more! I hope you find one, too! Thanks for stopping by! xo

WOW what a transformation already! I don’t know why, but the bathroom is always one of my favorite rooms to decorate. My husband and I currently rent and can’t paint, but I am super looking forward to it in the future, and in the mean time trying to find creative ways to add color to our white walls ๐Ÿ™‚
Stopped by from the live laugh link up, the cute baskets in your icon caught my eye!

That paint color looks perfect! Loving all those baskets (especially that “toothbrush basket” and the blue one. I, personally love the color, but if you are wanting to use it for toilet paper, and it doesn’t match- there are probably a million other colors out there that would be just as amazing. Mirror is beautiful! Can’t wait to see all this put together in the bathroom.

I’m going to call it. Gray Owl is the official paint color of the ORC! Haha! I’m using it too, and I’ve seen a few others, so maybe I’m exaggerating, but hey! LOL! Honestly, this room is going to look SO wonderful! I can’t wait to see how you paint the baskets, and what you do with the turquoise wire basket. Looking forward to next week’s post! ๐Ÿ™‚

I love how it’s turning out! That mirror is awesome! We used Gray Owl in our living room (after trying approximately 593,702 gray paint swatches, ha!) and love it, too!

    • Kendra says:

Thanks SO much ladies! That’s about how many gray swatches I had when I was looking for a gray for our bedroom a year ago! Not this time around, though!! ๐Ÿ™‚ Hope you ladies are having a great week! xo
