One Room Challenge: A Bathroom Makeover (& Plan)

Well, hello, hello!

I am over the moon excited to tell you that I am joining up once again in the One Room Challenge!

Hosted by Linda from Calling It Home, this challenge encourages us to makeover/redo any room in our home in a 5 week period. If you’ve followed my blog for a while, you might remember that I’ve participated in two of these before. Last spring, we redid our Master Bedroom and last fall we did our Laundry Room. And this time, we are tackling our main bathroom. Now, don’t laugh it may be the smallest room in our home, but it needs some serious attention! Plus, I didn’t want to let this challenge slip by me without jumping on board! Coupled with a busy spring, this room will keep us on our toes!

I’m going to share the pretty pictures first! After all, I don’t want to scare y’all off with our bathroom’s current state! Here’s what I’m dreaming off…

Well, I can’t hold the suspense any longer… it’s time to share the “before” pictures. This is always the hardest part for me! Just promise me you’ll keep following along on this journey with me!

Purple countertops. Green paint. 90’s medicine cabinet. This is the one room in our house that’s basically been untouched since we moved into our home. I’m excited to get started on it and make some changes!

No makeover is complete without a to-do list…. so here we go:

  •  Create a bright and happy room! (Painting the walls is my #1 priority in this space!!!)
Get rid of purple counter tops.
  •  Change sink and faucet.
  •  Get new light fixture.
  •  Pretty shower curtain.
  •  There’s some awesome shelves behind the door and I want lots of storage baskets and pretty storage containers for here.
  •  Build some open shelving above the toilet.
  • Make hook rack for towels.
  • Change oak trim to white.
  • Get rid of medicine cabinet and get new mirror.
  • Change hardware on cabinets and on main door.  (One knob is already changed… had to see how they’d look!)
  • Change flooring.

There it is in writing now! This is such a crazy awesome way to stay on track and accountable! No turning back now!

Here is the plan for all the participants… I am so excited to have you follow along!

Thursdays, April 2nd (week 1) – Introduce your space, and tell us your plan.

Thursday, April 9th (week 2) – Show us your progress. What have you accomplished?

Thursday, April 16th (week 3) – Have you encountered any setbacks? Any happy accidents?

Thursday, April 23rd (week 4) – How’s it going? Week 4 is the hardest!

Thursday, April 30th (week 5) – Did you revise your plan? Hang in there, you can do it.

Thursday, May 7th (week 6) – The Finale – It’s all about the pictures.

Thank you for stopping by today! I’d love to hear what you think of my plan… anything I should add or any other idea that would make our bathroom pretty? I’d love to hear about it in the comments below!
Wishing ALL my wonderful readers a Happy Easter!

xo,
Kendra

Oh Kendra, it’s not thaaaat bad! I mean it’s ready for a makeover for sure, but I’ve seen so much worse (including my own). LOVE your plans – everything looks so much lighter and brighter!!! I actually have a shower curtain very similar to the one you’re planning! Wishing you SUCH a wonderful Easter Weekend with your family! And of course, enjoy your Spring Break!!!

    • Kendra says:

Really, Kristi? lol! I think it’s the combination of purple and green that has me squinting when I look at it! ;P I love that shower curtain!! Wishing you and your family a wonderful Easter weekend, too! xo

I can’t wait to follow along on this project!!! I loved watching your master bedroom and laundry room come to fruition, but I think this might be my favorite already! I love what you have planned. So funny because I just told my hubby last night that I wanted to add open shelving above the toilet in the guest bath! Great minds think alike!

    • Kendra says:

I am soo glad to have your support, Lisa! Thanks for following along! I’ve wanted open shelving soo bad but I’m not brave enough to do it in the kitchen πŸ˜‰ So I’ll start in the bathroom! Have a wonderful rest of the week, friend!

I have participated in a challenge similar to this too! The one I did was to finish up 5-10 projects that you had been putting off. This is a great way to get motivated. I actually finished mine! You can check it out on my blog, homeonthecorner.com, February Challenge. I can’t wait to see your finished room!

    • Kendra says:

That sounds like a great challenge, Pamela! I’m thinking I need to participate if it happens again πŸ™‚ I’ll definitely check yours out! Thanks for following along and have a great weekend!

    • Kendra says:

Too funny, Shelby! I think it’s all the beautiful bathrooms out in the Pinterest and IG world that made ours look extra-outdated to me πŸ˜‰ I’m excited to get some cute storage for the shelves! Thanks for following along and have a great weekend!

I’m so excited to follow you on your ORC journey! I just LOVE all of your inspiration photos – all that white, marble, and neutrals is so dreamy πŸ™‚ And don’t worry, I think my bathroom is worse than yours – think yellow and white striped wallpaper, yellow shiny cabinets, and half-painted mirror trim (I think they forgot about the project half way through). Can’t wait to see your finished bathroom!

    • Kendra says:

So glad to have you follow along, Erica! Your bathroom description made me lol! You’ll have to join the next ORC πŸ˜‰ Thanks for stopping by, friend!

    • Kendra says:

It is fun, Carrie! You should totally jump on board still too?! It’s a great way to stay on track πŸ™‚ Thanks for coming by, friend! Have a great weekend!

Thanks for following along, Pat! The purple countertops were everywhere in our home…even the kitchen πŸ˜‰ Have a wonderful weekend πŸ™‚

    • Kendra says:

Thanks for the laugh, Paige! Our friends have that same color in their bathroom and in their dining/living room and I absolutely love it! But somehow, this just isn’t “me”! Hope you have a wonderful Easter weekend too! xo

Thanks for the endorsement, ladies! You’re always so encouraging! You’ll have to wait and see if that countertop stays…. or goes πŸ˜‰

    • Kendra says:

Thanks Kristen! We had that countertop everywhere in our home! They must’ve liked purple πŸ˜‰ Good luck with your renos… a glass bowl would look so pretty πŸ™‚ Have a great week!
