Once the pool is set up (and filled!!!) it officially signals the beginning of summer!

At our house anyway! Oh, there were a bunch of other first… like the first mowing of grass, the first camping trip, the first smores around the fire, but nothing excited our kids more than setting up our pool.

Last year we decided instead of buying swimming passes why not buy a pool for our yard and they can swim all day, every day. Mama especially loves this so much more because I can still work around the house and yard while the kids are having a blast swimming!

First on our list was heating that baby up a few degrees. While our summers can be very hot, you have to keep in mind when a pool is 4 feet deep it takes quite a bit of time for the sun to heat it up. We received this solar pool cover from Pool Supplies Canada and I have to say we were all amazed at the rise in temperature. After doing some research, we decided on the Clear Premium Solar Cover . The clear material allows the sun through and we learned that the more sunlight that radiates through a solar blanket the greater the increase in water temperature. That beautiful summer sunshine is attracted to the clear glistening cover and the heat is transferred to the pool water.

The solar cover has thousands of tiny air bubbles that are designed to capture and transmit solar heat to our pool. And what I’ve noticed the most, it keeps bugs, insects and other dirt out as well! It can get pretty windy here and last summer I always worried about our cover flying off and would go running to secure it but this one is quite heavy and “secure” to the water. There’s so much more info on these solar covers so be sure to head over to their website to read all about it here.

You’ll notice the crease in the middle of the pool and that’s because our pool has a diameter of 14 ft and this is a 15 foot cover.

Another upgrade we needed for our pool was a different filter system. The one that came with our pool really isn’t adequate to keep it clean. Last year we struggled with that and our friends who owned a pool actually drained and refilled theirs multiple times during the summer. We knew there had to be a more economical method and that’s why we decided on this Sand Pro Filter. It generates maximum water flow with superior filtration, creating maximum energy efficiency. We’ve noticed an incredible difference in the cleanliness of our pool and is well worth the investment.
