Monthly DIY Challenge: How To Make Your Own Coasters for Less

Happy second Wednesday of the month friends!

You know what that means, right?

Kidding… I totally don’t expect you to remember! 😉

On the second Wednesday of each month, a few of my blogging friends and I do our Monthly DIY Challenge. We started this a few years ago and it’s always SO fun to see what we all come up with! Each month it’s a different theme and the possibilities are endless! Some of my favorites that we’ve done are pumpkins, stencils, dollar store items, paint sprayers, and upcyled material.

Disclosure: I received product from Plaid for this project but all opinions are my own.

I’ve been wanting some coasters for our living room for quite a while now and so when Plaid sent me some of their fabulous products, I knew what I wanted to make with them! It always makes me nervous when company walks into the living room with a cup of coffee or tea and sets it on my beautiful coffee table! Aheeeem!

I’m excited that I can now have these pretty coasters sitting on end tables or even in guest bedrooms where mugs are usually set!

Here’s what I used to make my own:

  • Tiles (4 1/4″X4 1/4″)
  • Modge Podge
  • Scrapbook paper
  • Cork
  • You’ll be able to make these coasters in the the time it takes for your pot of coffee to brew (almost…. they were fun to make and don’t take long at all! Using the tile for a template, cut your scrapbook paper to fit the tile. Using Modge Podge apply to the top of the tile and carefully set your paper on top. After letting it dry, apply another coat of Modge Podge. I love that this is a sealer, glue and finish product all in one!! Makes it so handy!! Once your tile is completely dry, cut cork to fit bottom and stick on tile.

With Christmas around the corner in just a few short months, why not make a few of these for teacher gifts or for stocking stuffers for Grandparents!? They also look soo cute when you personalize them with a picture of the grandkids! My sister made a set for my parents and used some of our recent family pictures and they loved them!

The only hard part about these is deciding which scrapbook paper to use?! There is such pretty stuff out there I could’ve easily made 10 more!
