One Room Challenge, Week 3: Halfway Point of our Bathroom Makeover

Hello friends!

I don’t know what it is about these ORC’s but I think time flies even faster when I’m doing one! I can’t believe it’s week 3 already! Just in case you’re new to my blog or you missed a couple posts, check out Week 1 and Week 2 here. We have 6 weeks to makeover a room in our house and although I chose one of the smallest rooms in our home, it’s still tricky to stay on track. And keep focused on the task at hand! If you know me, I like to start one million projects at the same time (but please, never tell my husband I just admitted that!)

Last week I shared the quickest and easiest way to remove linoleum and although this tile isn’t glued down yet, I wanted to give you a little sneak peak! I had to lay a few tiles down just so you can see! I love the contrast of the dark flooring against the white cabinets and bathtub.

An old saucepot has been turned into a decorative storage basket....fast and easy DIY! | www.andersonandgrant.com

There’s so much pretty inspiration for bathrooms in blogland and I’ve been pinning away like crazy on Pinterest! Here’s a great idea for storing towels from my sweet friend Jamie at Anderson + Grant. You’ll have to pop over to her blog to see how she made this “basket”. We definitely want to stay on budget with this makeover and I love the idea or reusing or repurposing an old item and making it into something pretty and function like Jamie did!

If I look at our to-do list, it sure doesn’t seem like I have much to cross off! However, with a week of spring break last week, a little get-a-away and then getting back to the routine of things, it’s set me back a little but I’m still happy with where we’re at. This week isn’t so much about the pictures, as it was all about unscrewing a bunch of fixtures… and then all that’s left is blank slates so that wouldn’t make for pretty pictures. Our medicine chest is gone and sold, the towel bars are gone, the cabinet hardware is gone and the light fixture is down.

There was a couple things that slowed us down… Once my husband removed the toilet, we noticed some of the subfloor had rotted. My handy husband removed and replaced it and now we’re ready to install our new tile flooring! Another little crazy thing we discovered… our bathroom sinks have no under-the-counter shut offs!? That is not normal, right?? We might just have to call our favorite plumber to install them! How crazy is that!

My agenda for this weekend is shopping… and I’m not complaining! Paint, a mirror, some accessories, etc. Please wish me luck that the items I’m looking for jump right off the shelf and into my cart!

I hope to share a much, much more productive post next week! Here’s the look we’re aiming for… I’m excited to finally start painting and begin to brighten things up!

Thank you so much for bearing with us… as we get all the groundwork done for this bathroom makeover and begin the pretty “stuff” now! Have a fabulous rest of the week, friends! Thanks for stopping by!

Kendra…it is so exciting to follow along your progress each week! We feel that the smallest rooms are sometimes the most difficult challenges. We can’t wait to see what you show us next week…you’re doing a great job!

Shopping!!! Sounds like a pretty fun week ahead! And I’ve gotta say, I’m glad I’m not the only one feeling like they didn’t get much done this week! Have a great day Kendra! xo

Doing a room in six weeks would never happen in my world…6 months maybe, but not 6 weeks!

When my mom wanted to put a new sink in the bathroom she also found that there were no shut off valves, so you aren’t alone in the weirdness. To me, they are kind of important, but obviously some plumbers think the aren’t worth the time…..or maybe they know someday they’ll have the job to come back and put them in. Maybe there is a conspiracy here! 🙂
Thanks so much for sharing my “basket” in your post. I’m so excited to see your vision come together!

I am glad you understand, Jamie! It’s a busy time of year, no doubt! Had to chuckle about the plumbers having a job to come back to! 😉 And glad to share your baskets… so pretty! Have a great weekend, friend!

Thanks so much Kevin! I appreciate you following along! (Btw, I’ve tried to comment on your blog, but somehow my wordpress blog is not compatible with yours… it won’t let me! But I’m following along and love the tufted couch you posted!) Good luck this week!

Hi Kendra! You have such a nice space and a great plan! We are remodeling our powder room, so we are quite in the same situation! Our week also started taking the old stuff off, finding out there were no under the sink shut offs and finally getting to the fun part- shopping! I look forward for your next weeks post!

    • Kendra says:

Thanks Jenni! Can’t believe you have no shut-offs either! Crazy! I’ll have to check out your project as well! Thanks for stopping by! 🙂

That tile looks so good with the white cabinets! I’m right there with you on the pinning every bathroom idea on Pinterest and I’m out shopping accessories with you this week. Good luck finding the perfect pieces.

I just saw your link at “A Stroll Through Life”. I had to look back at your posts for Week #1 and Week #2. You have made some amazing progress. I am slowly in the process of making over my own bathroom. I even have the exact white ruffled shower curtain that you have on your inspiration board! Your progress is an inspiration to me. I want to try to go a bit faster and make this thing happen. Anyway, you are doing a great job and I look forward to seeing your final reveal.
    Best,

I like the idea of giving yourself a time frame for getting the room done. I’ve been wanting to make over our bathroom too and finding the right accessories has been the hardest part. I hope you are able to have some successful shopping this week!

    • Kendra says:

I agree, Emily, the timeframe is perfect for staying on track and actually finishing one room! I did have some luck finding some things… Check out this week’s update 🙂 Hope you have a great weekend!
