One Room Challenge (Week 2): Progress Stopped by an Accident

Welcome to week 2 of our One Room Challenge! It seems like now that we joined the ORC, time will start going double its speed!

One Room Challenge: A Bathroom Makeover from www.joyinourhome.com

Whenever we tackle a project, there’s always some unexpected hiccups and bumps along the way, right? I’m sure many of you are nodding your heads along with me. Well, week 2’s to-do list was mighty long. However, there wasn’t too much that got crossed off. There wasn’t even a trip to Home Depot this weekend. Let me tell you what happened…

So instead of a bunch of diy-ing going on this weekend…. this is what it looked like…

Week 2 ORC

Our entire weekend was spent at the hospital. Friday night, Mommy had the brilliant idea of taking the kids to the BMX track. Like most kids, ours looove riding their bikes and we thought this would be a fun outing for Friday night. Our son was especially enjoying the track when he had a fall… it wasn’t anything huge and dramatic…. it was basically a slip and then a very awkward fall. And a trip to the ER that confirmed a broken and dislocated arm. Because we’d had supper a little late, they couldn’t operate on him till Saturday morning. As you can imagine, Friday night was very painful and uncomfortable. Having said all that, our little man was a trouper, had an amazing surgeon, an awesome team of pediatric nurses, and loving family and friends to help him through the weekend. He’s at home now and recovering…

Back to the ORC… here’s our inspiration for our daughter’s bedroom. In case you missed last week’s post you can check it out here!

Big Girl Bedroom Makeover

Just to jog your memory, this is our daugher’s room as of last week…

Little Girl Room Makeover

So, needless to say, there isn’t too many things that get crossed off our list this week. I am super pumped though that the painting is done!! I was all too glad to get rid of that purple and pink! It looks so bright already and each time I walk by the room, I catch myself stopping and taking a peek in there! We chose Grey Owl by Benjamin Moore and white for all the trim. We decided not to change the trim around the windows and doors as it’s not in our budget right now. Painting the oak white though, made a huge difference!

Big Girl Bedroom Makeover

A trip to Ikea a few weeks ago also brought home this beautiful dresser! Can we stop for a second and talk about Ikea furniture?? I could seriously go into that store and go broke… all in one day! This dresser is such good quality and at that price, it can’t be beat. You can find it here!

BRUSALI 4-drawer dresser IKEA Smooth running drawers with pull-out stop.

We might’ve brought home something else from Ikea…. but you’ll have to come back next week to see it! It’s a beauty… I promise!

Shall we take a look at our list and see what all we accomplished… despite our little set-back?

  •   Paint walls. Goodbye purple and pink!
  •   Change light fixture.
  •   New bed…. whether we diy her current one or get a new one altogether.
  •    New nightstand and dresser.
  •    Gallery wall.
  •    Large area rug.
  •    Paint trim.
  •    Organize and declutter.
  •    Make/sew new bedding.

So there we are friends! We are officially onto week 3 now! And if you need something to read with your morning coffee, check out the rest of the ORC link ups and see all the hard work going on!

Thanks SO much for stopping by friends! Have a wonderful day!

I am sorry about your son! I hope he is recovering okay! I love the grey owl paint for your room! My 4 year old just conned me into painting her room pink last weekend and while it is so cute, I can’t wait for the day when she asks to go more neutral!
