One Room Challenge {Week 1}: A Farmhouse Style Office Makeover

Friends, welcome to the Spring One Room Challenge!

I cannot believe I just typed those words!!

Yet, here we are again! On the brink of 6 of the most stressful (but totally rewarding) weeks of the year!! We are certainly not newcomers to the One Room Challenge. This’ll be our 6th one and each time it has pushed us to work hard and complete a space in our home that we definitely wouldn’t have redone if we didn’t have these deadlines. If you’re new to my blog (welcome, I’m so happy you’re here!) you might be wondering what the One Room Challenge is. It’s a bi-annual challenge that Linda from Calling It Home hosts where a few featured design bloggers and a few hundred guest bloggers makeover a room in 6 weeks.

There wasn’t a shadow of a doubt as to which room we were going to tackle this time around. (Although I secretly contemplated redoing our first ever ORC but decided it’s just not necessary yet!) I am over the moon excited to transform our office/playroom into A Farmhouse Style Office!! I’ve got such a vision for this space and cannot wait to get started pulling it all together!

Ever since moving into our home 5 years ago, this room has never been fully functional. Up until recently it used to be our playroom/office but as our children are getting older, all those toddler toys, puzzles and a million little-piece-toys are beginning to slowly disappear. There’s no better time to turn this room into a functional space for our family to enjoy and use!

If you remember last summer we had a huge water leak in our home and we had major renovations and upgrades done. Our entire home had to be packed up and moved into storage. As the moving company was packing everything up, I took a look at my humongous desk and pictured how it usually looked. Cluttered. Filled to the brim. Disorganized. Messy. Not profitable at all! I quickly asked them to leave it, took a photo of it and posted it on the garage sale site and it sold right away! This is the desk we used to have. Huge, right?

Now, I must admit a major blogger fail. I have no “before” photo of this room. I’ve searched through our thousands of pictures on our hard drive and yet I can’t find one. I’ll keep looking and hopefully have one by next week! It’s not a big room by any means, so we want to make the very best

I am such a list-maker and I think every project, big or small, needs a to-do list! So I’m going to officially publish my list… and then there’s no going back!

  • Paint walls
  • Change glass colonial door
  • Find desk at a thrift or garage sale and redo
  • Buy chair and reupholster footstool
  • Organize all my craft supplies in a functional (and pretty!) way
  • Add a rug
  • Paint current blinds or buy new ones if budget allows
  • Add shiplap
  • Redo a buffet we already have and use it to organize
  • Décor

I’d love for you to follow along these next crazy 6 weeks… cheer loud, my friends, cause I’ll need it!

We currently have an office/playroom that’s a lot more playroom than office, lol! Can’t wait to get to your stage where we can actually get some use out of that space. Good luck! I’m excited to see that lovely mood board come to life!

Thank you so much, Tash! I completely understand more playroom than office stage! They grow so quickly and I can hardly believe ours have outgrown all those baby/toddler toys! Thanks for stopping by!

I’m not sure what I was thinking when I chose that desk! That somehow I’d be terribly organized if I had it?? lol! Thanks for cheering us on!! xo

It is such a bittersweet moment when your kids no longer need their playroom area. I really love your idea board, the plush, vibrant accent chair is amazing. Having a comfortable space to work really aids in productivity.

I totally agree, Charlotte! I can’t believe how quickly the years have flown by! Looking forward to having this space to work in and enjoy! Thanks for stopping by!
