Feels Like Home Christmas Tour

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! It’s such an exciting day here at Joy In Our Home… as we welcome you into our home for a tour!

I’d like to say a big thank-you to Jenna from Wife In Progress for organizing this beautiful blog hop! You’re in for a real treat this week as I’m joining 33 other talented and inspiring ladies in opening our doors and welcoming you into our homes. If you’re stopping by from Ann’s home On Sutton Place , welcome! I’m so glad you’re here! There’s tons of Christmas inspiration and grab yourself a big mug of hot chocolate and come on in!

With all the beautiful and immaculate homes out there, I strive more than anything not to play the comparison game. After a big experience last year, I’ve learned in a deep measure there truly is no place like home. Our home isn’t filled with expensive décor from fancy stores, but rather it’s the people I love dearly that make it “home”. And then all the DIYs that my sweet husband and I embark on are just the icing on the cake. I love decorating it on a budget and shopping yard sales, thrift stores, and sales all year long. Often my finds are given a makeover so they suit my style and our home!

Our farmhouse office is right around the corner from our entry way. Our piano is also in here and gets lots of use from everyone but me. I enjoyed decorating it for the season and making it a cozy place to hang out! I also shared the Christmas Village Winter Scene that sits on the buffet earlier this week if you want to take a peek at it.

This cozy corner waits for me at the end of a long day and often the place our daughter or I curl up in. Our kids are busy practicing for their piano recital and this is where I sit and watch (and encourage them). The stool belonged to my precious Grandma who passed away earlier this year and means a lot to me.

My husband built these shelves and they’ve quickly become one of my favorite spots to decorate. Last week I shared how to easily flock your own trees and I’m loving how the two on top turned out.

The white star that gets illuminated by a tea light is another item that has a special meaning to me. A couple of years ago our kids’ school did a yard sale fundraiser in December and our son bought it for me and had it wrapped by one of the kids there. He was so darn proud when he brought it home and couldn’t wait for me to unwrap it on Christmas Eve. I know I’ll always treasure it!

Another tradition I love this time of year is writing cards with our family photo included.

This egg basket holds my latest collection of magazines or books I’m reading. The basket is actually from the farm I grew up on and I’ve filled many a basket with potatoes during harvest time. I wonder if my grandpa used it years before me to collect eggs? A little sprig of greenery adds a simple, festive touch.

As I mentioned before, my husband and our son and daughter all play the piano and I will never tire of the sounds coming from this piano I repainted last year. The buffet and piano were probably two of the hardest pieces I ever redid, but so worth it! My husband also made the sign over the piano and the beaded star was my first holiday DIY I this year.

I couldn’t help but bring a few cozy touches to our bedrooms too! In our bedroom, our daughters and in the guest room, I strung a simple garland on our board and batten headboard my husband built for us. A cozy throw I picked up at Target a few weeks ago and some white pillows from Home Sense adds some extra coziness for the cold months ahead.

And I know this next photo isn’t the most glamorous but which farmhouse doesn’t have warm flannel sheets during the winter time!?

And before you head off, you have to take one (or three!) of best ever Gingersnap cookies to finish off our tour…

If you need to refill your cup, go ahead, because there’s lots more lovely homes to tour! Thank you SO much for stopping by our home, friends and next up is my sweet friend Jen from Noting Grace! Enjoy the Christmas season to the fullest, friends and thank you for stopping in today!

Awww… thank you, Carol! Appreciate your sweet comments! (And that was tea in my mug, although I love a good up of hot chocolate!) Have a wonderful week! xo

Oh my goodness Kendra, everything looks SO cozy! And I couldn’t agree more, there really is no place like home! Wishing you the most amazing holiday season with everyone you love most! xo

So very pretty! I love your painted piano! I always wondered if painting them changed the sound at all. But it sounds like it still sounds lovely! Your whole home has such a cozy and calming Christmas vibe. Love it!

Thank you, Sara!! I’ve always admired your style and so your comments mean a lot to me! I waited forever before painting our piano but I honestly never thought if it would change the sound. (The piano tuner has been here since and we were talking about it being refinished but he never said anything so I think you’re good to go 😉 Thanks so much for stopping by! xo
